HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION, DATA COLLECTION AND PROCESSING IN PLACES OF DETENTION

JPC Bamenda, represented by Rev. Fr. Godlove; the Program Manager, Rusert Azama; the Access to Justice Officer and Fajong Azineh; the Human Rights Officer, took part in a training workshop on ‘Human Rights Violation, Data Collection and Processing in Places of Detention’. The workshop was organized particularly for members of Diocesan Justice and Peace Commissions and Diocesan Prison Chaplaincies with over 26 participants from Bafang, Edea, Kribi, Yaounde, Buea and Bamenda.

The workshop was organized by the JPC National Coordination Office and it took place at the National Episcopal Conference, Yaoundé, Cameroon, from March 6 to 9, 2023. Participants gained knowledge on;

  • Human rights and fundamental notions
  • Responsibility of the state and other actors on the application of Human Rights
  • The Rights of detainees
  • Techniques on monitoring and documenting Human Rights violations

Participants were encouraged to always uphold the humanitarian principles in their interventions in places of detention.
