The Justice and Peace Commission of the Bamenda Archdiocese organized a workshop on Participatory Governance, involving 5 church and secular groups. This came as one of the activities under the project ‘Protection of Rights of Vulnerable Groups in the Bamenda Archdiocese’. The workshop was preceded by a contact meeting with some representatives from each of the groups, with the aim of discussing their experiences on governance and identifying areas that need strengthening. The workshop was attended by at least 25 representatives from the five religious and secular groups (church, Moslem and local associations). The workshop was designed to improve participants’ knowledge on participatory governance.
During the workshop, participants were trained on: Good Governance, Human Rights, Governance and Conflict, Conflict Management and Gender. The Participants identified some major barriers to participatory governance and outlined practical steps they would implement to overcome the barriers and promote participatory governance within their groups.
All the participants left the workshop with a strong determination to improve on their electoral processes, conflict management, group participation, the respect for human rights and gender balance, transparency and better management of resources, with the new-found knowledge.
