SPEAK-OUT CAMPAIGN TO PROMOTE A JUST AND PEACEFUL SOCIETY
In commemoration of the Human Rights Day 2022, JPC Bamenda joined over 1000 people from all walks of life, in a Speak-Out Campaign to Promote a Just and Peaceful Society. The event took place at the Presbyterian Church auditorium in Mankon, Bamenda.
In situating the background and objectives of the campaign, discussions revolved around the ongoing armed conflict in NWSW which has lasted for 6 years and counting and has degenerated to violence, fragmentations and mass killings. In evaluating the effects of the crisis on the population, many people from various sectors advanced the following: numerous killings, price hikes in goods and services, increase in GBV, trauma, poor education, destruction of property, bleak future for the youth, harassment, kidnappings for ransom and increase in the number of persons living with disabilities, just to name a few.
It was underscored that promoting a just and peaceful society is a collective responsibility and for this to succeed; we need to uphold positivity, equality, inclusion, tolerance and non-violence as core values. The campaign ended with the drafting of appeal messages addressed to the UN, Diplomatic Missions, International Community, President of the Republic of Cameroon, State Security and Armed Forces, members of the Diaspora and the Non-State Armed Groups, calling on them to ensure a STOP! of violent actions and to promote peace and sustainable development.
